BarCamp Kerala 6

Even though its not a tweetup, tomorrow’s(Oct 11th 2009) BarCamp will have the greatest concentration of Twitter users in Kerala. Be there if you are in Cochin. Don’t know what a BarCamp is? Here is a description from BarCamp Kerala’s official site…
BarCamp is an ad-hoc unconference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees. Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join. There are no registration fees or any charges for a barcamp as this is a user-generated conference. You are invited to volunteer for various activities for putting up a successful camp.
This time, we are holding the camp at Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology Campus. The camp starts at 10 AM and ends at 5 PM.
BarCamp Kerala is your best chance to meetup all the coolest techies from Kerala. If you are a techie of any scale, do make it to BarCampKerala!

We had the monthly Cochin Tweetup today – at Food Court, Oberon mall. Again, due to the lack of WiFi, no live tweets. All the updates about the event was thanks to the dilegent efforts of @maravind on his mobile.

Why do we keep forgetting to take a group photo? So no image with linked faces(less work for me 
). Anyway, we got some non-group-photos.
Oberon Mall as a Tweetup Venue
Its quite a nice place – I liked it.
Advantages
- Super close to my home. I know it is not an advantage for others – but I’m making the list.
- Spacious – We got a table easily even at Sunday 4 PM
- Big tables – could accommodate us even if we grow in number.
- More choice in eatables.
- Scenic location – in more ways than one.
Disadvantages
- No WiFi. Well, technically, they have WiFi – but they don’t provide internet – its for their local networking
- A bit noisy at rush hours
- Not much privacy(again, at rush hours)
- Not accessible by bus.
- People tend to get distracted a lot more. I guess it has something to do with the ’scenic-ness’ of this place.
All in all, its a decent place to hold tweetups. I still prefer Take One cafe – but this Food Court gets the second place. Please share you opinions on the topic.
Cochin Tweetup 3 Report
Third Cochin Tweetup over – and we had a decent turn out. I thought that there will be only a few people because many said they cannot come to the tweetup. We had quite a few new faces – @fsiyavud, @roshinroy, @countroshculla and @arunbalu.

Second Cochin Tweetup: A Report
The second Cochin tweetup took place today – and it was a great Success. Success with a Capital S. We had 20 tweeps – and the whole meetup stretched to over 4 hours! Thanks goes to @sid88 for organizing the meet.

April 2009 Cochin Tweetup
Its time once again for the twitter community of Cochin to meet up. After last meet’s success we had all decided to meet once in a month. So lets meet on 18th of April(Saturday) at 5 PM at Take one cafe at Convent junction. The cafe provides free wifi(according to @sid88). So don’t forget to bring along your wifi devices. First Kerala Tweetup Report: Cochin Tweetup 1
The first Cochin Tweetup happened on 9th March 2009 at Barista, Bay Pride Mall, Menaka. Live twitter update was done by the guys with mobile – @remzology, @maravind, @kg86. Until we get a place with a decent (and hopefully free) wifi connection, only mobile tweets will be available.
Planning
The tweetup was the brainchild of @kg86…
quite a few off days ahead, can we have a #kochi #cochin #tweetup ?
Soon many others from Cochin responded – and we decided on the date and venue. Barista, Bay Pride Mall at Menaka, Cochin was chosen because there was a possibility of getting WiFi there. Also, it was the default venue for Cochin Bloggers meetings.
Execution
I reached the venue at 5:05 PM. I did not notice any open laptops so I assumed that I was the first person to reach the venue. After a few more minutes, I noticed a guy behind me playing with his mobile – but still no groups. Still, I was not worried – we are in Indian Stretchable Time after all.
After another five minutes or so, I noticed that the guy behind me is still lonely – and still has not ordered anything. That’s when I began to suspect that he is here for the Tweetup. One problem of the internet is that you don’t know what the guys on the other side look like – you only know what their avatar looks like. And I assure you, the guy behind me did not look like this…
So I went over and asked him if he was here for the tweetup – turns out he is Rameez Nooruddin – aka remzology. When I saw him earlier, we was playing with the mobile – yup – updating twitter. And he didn’t recognize me because I was not wearing my glasses.
Soon people began to come. I am not sure about the order – but soon @sid88, @kg86, @adheeth, @maravind, @remzology, @ronyjacob and myself(@binnyva) were at the table.

Outcome
Everyone who attended enjoyed the meeting. We decided to do this once every month or so. And we thought that was the end of it.
But the responses in Twitter where more than what we anticipated – there where many calls to scale up the meets to a Kerala wide operation. Finally after a tweet from Arun Basil Lal, I decided to create a site to coordinate Tweetups in Kerala.
And thus TwitterKerala.com was born.
